It’s All So Clear Now

Thursday, June 1st, 2006

Finally, somebody has made a clear guide to all of those confusing theological terms that make the deeper bits of Christianity inaccessible to the average lay-person.
Via my dad.

WARNING: For the farcically-challenged among you, this is a spoof. It also makes more sense if you read the entire first bit before jumping the the funny.

Physics

Tuesday, March 21st, 2006

I’m sticking this under philosophy because I don’t trust my background in physics enough to thing this is completely accurate, but I thought of something today while watching a documentary on Steven Hawking, and thought I should write it down.
Black holes are singularities — essentially the atomic roach motel (matter checks in, but it doesn’t check out). The big bang that started the whole shebang was also a singularity. I know gravity messes with the localized passage of time, so is it possible that our entire universe is merely the inside of a black hole? In which case, where do our black holes go?
If anybody has any input in this, feel free to leave a comment, even if it’s just on the philosophical nature of the topic and not the physics side.

The Death Of A Great Man

Sunday, April 3rd, 2005

The Sunday Times has here the touching narrative of the last hours of Pope John Paul II. Even in his death he was a great symbol for the Roman Catholic as well as the broader church of Christ.
Let us hope that whoever is chosen to replace him will be made of the same stuff.

Atheism On The Decline?

Thursday, March 3rd, 2005

This article is fascinating. Is atheism really being replaced by a nonspecific paganism? It’s possible, though it might be more obviously observable in Europe than in America, which maintains its nominal Christianity. I disagree that such a state of affairs would make things more difficult for Christianity; the rapid spread of Christianity through the Roman Empire shows an excellent example of why I think this. It’s not a very large jump to move people from believing in spiritual forces of one kind or another to believing in a God that created the spiritual realm. It’s considerably harder to convince someone to move from holding a positive belief that there is no spiritual realm and no God to believing in both. Anyhow, go read the article.

More or less a conversion

Interesting article here about Antony Flew. Guess you might say that he Flew the coop.
Sorry, couldn’t help myself.
