French Stereotypes

Monday, October 31st, 2005

Today in class when I informed my students that France has a permanent seat on the UN Security Council, many of them seemed shocked. “Why?” one said, “they’re wimps!”
It seems that the British feel the same way.
In other news, Laurent Fabius (“a former Socialist prime minister and also a potential presidential candidate in 2007″) refers to visiting poor and Muslim neighborhoods that have been undergoing problems as “play[ing] the cowboy.”

Prince Charles

Saturday, October 29th, 2005

The last thing we need at the moment is to be lectured on our policy towards Islam by Prince Charles, but here he is, explaining that we need to start looking at the strengths of Islam. Things like this, I suppose.

Bush The Conqueror?

Saturday, October 22nd, 2005

This one suprised me, but on checking the information, it seems to be correct (at least the square mileage of Bush’s ‘conquests’ — I trust his reference to the Encyclopaedia Britannica).

The Joys Of Videotaping TV

Wednesday, October 19th, 2005

My cooperating teacher taped the first episode of “Commander In Chief” to play for the class at the end of our unit on the Presidency. Of course, fragments of commercials appear occasionally (before the VCR can be stopped) and it sometimes loses a bit of the beginning of the show again after the commercial break, as it takes a moment for the VCR to get going. One rather unfortunate alignment of the analog stars:

“It’s big, it’s hairy, it’s…
technically the President of the United States.”

The Media In Action

If you wanted a good example of what’s wrong with the media today, take a look at this.
Who really cares? I mean, seriously!

Democrats And Party Alignment

I could have told them that. It closely mirrors what I’ve been saying since before the 2004 election.

Terrorism And Islam

Monday, October 10th, 2005

There’s a very interesting (and remarkably long) list here of all of the terrorist attacks in the world committed by Muslims since September 11, 2001. I have some minor questions about their methodology of selecting what makes it, and I am sure the list is incomplete, but it is truly an eye-opening look at the “Religion Of Peace.” I may take a closer look at the numbers later and see if there are any interesting trends to be found in the data.

Al Gore Blogs

With entries like this, it’s definitely worth taking a look at Al Gore’s official blog.

The Miers Nomination

I agree with prettymuch everything in this piece. Come on, people, have some confidence in the man!

A Link!

Tuesday, October 4th, 2005

It’s rare that I get offsite links from sites that I haven’t already linked to. As in, the only time before this that it has happened was when spam sites were linking to me. So I’m quite pleased to find a quote of mine on Eclipse‘s eleventh page of Political Signature Quote Collection. I even have a better sense of humor than the average troll in the DU! Then again, that’s like saying that someone has more legs than a slug. Or more personality than Al Gore. Either way, I shall take it as a compliment (even though I’ve never trolled on DU).
