If this is true, it could be a major black eye for China internationally. More incidents like this could be a great incentive for China to work on improving its human rights record and how it treats dissidents. Chinese Defector?
Saturday, June 4th, 2005Euro Woes
Friday, June 3rd, 2005After its major disappointments in France and the Netherlands, the EU is facing challenges from sheep already in the fold. While it is unlikely that Maroni will get his way, such statements from a major player in an EU country are a major call for change.
These statements not only challenge the Euro, however. They also hit home to Jacques Chirac with their effusive praise of the British economy — something Chirac is greatly opposed to. Agitation for a free market is definitely a good thing, and would be a better direction for Europe than a France-dominated continent of weenie-socialists.
Woodward And Deep Throat
Thursday, June 2nd, 2005The story of how Bob Woodward met Deep Throat and how he got information from him is fascinating. You can even see a point in the narrative where it switches from Woodward asking for information and Mark Felt actively giving it to him.
If nothing else, the extent to which the meetings between the two of them were secured are quite interesting.
Amnesty And The Gulag
Wednesday, June 1st, 2005Via Power Line we have an excellent article on the recent Amnesty International comparison of the US facilities in Guantanamo with the Soviet Gulag. I don’t really feel that I have to add much to this. The comparison is ridiculous, and Amnesty needs to stop pretending to be a moral arbiter and go back to doing what they SHOULD be doing — being an advocate for those who are truly being oppressed.
