After its major disappointments in France and the Netherlands, the EU is facing challenges from sheep already in the fold. While it is unlikely that Maroni will get his way, such statements from a major player in an EU country are a major call for change.
These statements not only challenge the Euro, however. They also hit home to Jacques Chirac with their effusive praise of the British economy — something Chirac is greatly opposed to. Agitation for a free market is definitely a good thing, and would be a better direction for Europe than a France-dominated continent of weenie-socialists.
