Schiavo Again

Monday, March 28th, 2005

Is it me, or are news outlets now showing more pictures of Terri Schiavo from before her heart attack? I don’t recall seeing any before about yesterday, but since then I’ve seen several different ones. Now that the case to save her is seen as being over, do the media outlets think they can make her seem more human?

Iranian Protests

Monday, March 28th, 2005

If this information is correct, we may be seeing a major shift in the Middle East sometime in the near future.
Put it this way: you’ll never hear them chanting like this for Bush in New York City.

Schiavo Case

Sunday, March 27th, 2005

I promised myself I wouldn’t write much about the Schiavo case (as I really don’t feel that I have a thorough enough grasp of the details of the case to form a proper opinion). I’ve prettymuch kept my feelings to myself on the matter, but I did find this post interesting. This provides MUCH more information than is being publicized in the mainstream media — even if some of it is pure speculation, the overwhelming weight of what CAN be confirmed argues against the simplistic explanation we’ve all been hearing from the news. When Nat Hentoff agrees with the Pope, some consideration is in order.

Albania

Sunday, March 27th, 2005

I don’t really have much to post today. Actually, I haven’t been posting as much recently: observations at JBMS (I’m teaching my first lesson Tuesday) and stuff have kept me fairly busy, and have worn me out enough that I really don’t feel like writing of an evening. I did, however, find this post at Power Line to be interesting, so you can go read that.

Lawyers Hit Bottom

Saturday, March 26th, 2005

I am not particularly fond of the law profession. This confirms my previous feelings on the matter. Not all of the details are in this particular article (Schiavo’s parents asked her to try to say “I want to live,” and she managed to articulate “AHHHHHHH” and then “WAAAAAAAA”), but the lawyer for her husband has said that trying to convince the court one last time that they shouldn’t starve her to death is an “abuse of the court process.”

Kids’ TV

Friday, March 25th, 2005

Occasionally you come across a kids’ tv show that can really cross over to be popular with everyone. Spongebob seems to have done this, and Invader Zim (while admittedly more of a cult cartoon instead of having a broad following) has somewhat as well. I wouldn’t be suprised if this (as the headline implies) does the same.

Craziness

Thursday, March 24th, 2005

There are a lot of odd things going on in the world. This person‘s chili gave them the finger. Somebody else decided on his own to donate some of his art to a museum. And there’s soon to be newly declassified footage from Russia.
You’d think it was a slow news day or something.

Freedom Moving

Thursday, March 24th, 2005

Syria is now in quite a hurry to leave Lebanon. The corrupt government of Kyrgyzstan has been overthrown. It definitely seems that freedom is on the march since the elections in Iraq. How much of an influence the elections had we may never know, but it’s a relief to see stuff like this going on in the world.

Venezuela

Thursday, March 24th, 2005

Venezuela seems to be swinging slowly in the direction of Cuba. Chavez is already buddies with Castro, and seems to be moving to oppose the US on more and more things. Hopefully the Venezuelans see what’s happening and toss him out soon.
