More On The IRA

Monday, March 14th, 2005

Powerline has more on Bush’s efforts against the IRA. I wrote about the most recent dust-up with the terrorist group here last week. Looks like Bush isn’t going to let the pressure off any time soon.

Michael Jackson (Yeckth)

Monday, March 14th, 2005

Much as I dislike Matt Drudge and all the mainstream news sources harping about Jackson continually, I did find this article interesting. That’s only because most of it wasn’t about Jackson, but about the Corcoran prison and some of the other famous inmates there. If coverage of the Jackson case is the type of journalistic pap it takes to produce vaguely interesting articles on such famous figures as Charles Manson and Sirhan Sirhan, that’s truly saying something about the state of the news media today.

Suprise, Suprise

Monday, March 14th, 2005

It turns out that despite all the claims to the contrary, Bush received less favorable media coverage then Kerry during the election. Even if various individual attacks (like CBS’s attack on Bush’s Guard service) weren’t explicitly politically based, the overall effect of implicit media bias is still blatantly obvious even to such institutions as Columbia’s School of Journalism. Now we know why Fox is so soundly reviled — they made Iraq out to be a positive story. Following the January elections there, it seems as if they were more right than, say, PBS.

Boycott AIM

Monday, March 14th, 2005

With this kind of restrictions to free and unmolested use of instant messenger, I’d be suprised if their new Terms of Service lasts very long. Businesses and individuals concerned with maintaining control of anything they may write or any information they may pass over instant messenger will steer clear of using it, and I’d recommend that everyone else does too. My question is if this invasive ToS extends to non-AOL clients that use the AIM network. If it lets them alone, I would recommend that everyone out there switch to Gaim. This is what I use, and while it still has some flaws, it works quite well. Then again, I use the X11 version and not Windows, so depending on your operating system it may work better or worse. Worth a try though.
