Paranoia

Monday, March 7th, 2005

This illustrates the extremes to which some people’s paranoia drives them. Something bad happens — a misunderstanding at a military checkpoint, and someone gets killed. Instead of seeing this as an unfortunate accident, some people automatically assume that the US is intentionally targeting citizens of a government it has a minor disagreement with. This is immensely stupid, and not just because it shows that the paranoia about what the “evil American government” is willing to do, but also because it is automatically assumed that the Americans are also STUPID enough to do something that would be devastating as publicity. The mere fact that something as incoherent as this can make news (and on a regular basis) truly says something about the effect that America’s foreign policy is having on people who disagree with it — it seems to be literally driving them crazy.
