A True Sign Of The Times

Wednesday, March 2nd, 2005

You know that reform fever has spread when Egypt and Saudi Arabia are mediating Syrian withdrawal from Lebanon. This is a good thing, particularly for Israel, as it provides an opportunity to finally crack down on Hezbollah and reduce terrorist pressures in Israel itself as well as in Palestinian-controlled areas. With the Palestinians seemingly moving away from support to terrorist attacks, this could bode quite well for the peace process.

Dean And Moderation

Wednesday, March 2nd, 2005

Dean has now said that the Democratic party will start to reach out to pro-life Democrats. This would significantly increase the pull of the Democratic party to single-issue voters on the topic of abortion. The question is, can Dean manage to wrest the party away from the pro-choice groups that currently monopolize the thinking on those policies, or will this be a lip-service-only acceptance of pro-life views? Dean, being accepted by the more liberal parts of the party would be in an ideal position to make the party more accepting of certain views that are currently out of favor, but can he bring himself to do it? Hopefully the answer is yes.
