In case any of you were thinking “I wonder what Barner is listening to right now,” now you know. (I’m quite pleased to have a copy of the cd with the original cover. I didn’t realize what this picture looked like until around November 2001 when one of the girls I went to school with at Messiah said “that’s MEAN!”)

Ratcheting Up the Pressure

The Bush administration is beginning to put more pressure on North Korea. It’s about time.
Expect North Korea to rattle more sabres and talk more about the evil U.S. pushing it too far, and then expect various allies to start expressing doubts as to whether or not to face them down on the issue.

Syria Flexing Its Muscles

A former Lebanese Prime Minister who advocates Lebanon’s full independence from Syria mysteriously blows up. It’s hard to tell exactly who is behind this right now — it’s probably Syria at some level, but they’re likely working through an intermediary (like Hezbollah). We’ll have to see what develops from this.
